Joan Baez burst into the spotlight in 1959 at the Newport Folk Festival at the age of 18. In the 1960s, she was the popular face of folk as she helped bring upstarts Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Phil Ochs to fame.
She marched alongside Martin Luther King in Selma, stood in the fields with Cesar Chavez and migrant workers, withheld income taxes and went to Hanoi during the Vietnam War.
Now, at 62, Joan Baez is on the road again. For the first time in six years, she has released a new studio record. She's looking again to new work and young songwriters and once more, her famous voice brings tension and conviction to big ballads, little stories, deep politics.
